サルベージ・アズ・ア・サービス（スタジオ A1）の一部。定住コミュニティの組織と島の市民生活に対応する。今回のスタジオで最も進んだグループ。

What this group pursued / このグループが取り組んだこと

A project titled Creative Placemaking through Permaculture, built around introducing artichoke cultivation to Sagishima (see the running Artichoke Project thread). The group worked outward from the plant into the island's social fabric: listening to farmers first, designing second.

「パーマカルチャーによるクリエイティブ・プレイスメイキング」と題されたプロジェクト。アーティチョークの栽培を佐木島に導入することを軸に据えた（継続中のアーティチョーク・プロジェクトのスレッドを参照）。グループは、植物から島の社会的な織物へと外向きに作業を進めた。まず農家に耳を傾け、その後に設計を行った。

  • The Koroku (小六) mutual-aid system, recalled by resident Mr. Fukuda: full-time farmers helped part-time farmers and were thanked with a meal rather than money. The group reads it as the conceptual spine of island life, and uses the artichoke (peeling leaves to reach a core) as a metaphor for how newcomers are slowly accepted. 「小六」の相互扶助の仕組み。住民の福田さんが語ったもの。専業農家が兼業農家を手伝い、金銭ではなく食事でお返しをした。グループはこれを島の暮らしの背骨と読み、アーティチョーク（葉を剥いて芯に至る）を、新参者が少しずつ受け入れられていく過程の比喩として用いている。
  • A farmland level-of-use and level-of-care survey of the Sunoue district, classifying plots from active farming to abandoned. 須ノ上地区の農地の利用度・管理状況の調査。区画を、活発な農業から放棄地までに分類している。
  • A set of named resident interviews (Hiraki and Yamane; Fukuda; Sugano; Nakamura; Nakazono; a returning female resident; a local teacher), bilingual, with consent to photograph. 実名の住民インタビュー一式（平木と山根、福田、菅野、中村、中園、帰島したある女性、地域の先生）。二言語で、写真撮影の同意を得ている。

The group also assembled a bilingual annual events calendar for Sagishima and an island crop history (sweet potato to rice to tobacco to salt to mikan to lemon, and now artichoke).

グループはまた、佐木島の二言語の年間行事暦と、島の作物の歴史（芋から稲、たばこ、塩、ミカン、レモン、そして今アーティチョークへ）をまとめた。

Outputs / 成果

By the final presentation (2026-06-06) the group had pulled its fieldwork into five finished deliverables, gathered on one website.

The deliverables are illustrated throughout with a set of original watercolors (see below). Working files (the project brief, Interviews 2.docx, the mid-review survey decks SQUARE midreview_01/02.pdf, the ~42 MB Google-maps overlay, sketches, and the InDesign and Illustrator masters) remain in the studio Drive SQUARE ◻ folder.

A set of original watercolor-and-ink illustrations made for the deliverables. They picture the island's crops and the small acts of mutual aid the group listened for: red rice cooked in thanks, food carried to a neighbor, a field worked by two pairs of hands.
