  1. fairs and exhibitions

In line with the promotion of new farming villages, agricultural management patterns have gradually changed, and livestock, which used to be kept mainly as service cattle, are now being raised on a large scale, including dairy cattle, pigs, sheep, and chickens. To further promote the farming industry, agricultural product and livestock breeding fairs and competitions are held.

Breeding of Dairy Cows

Cattle used to be black bulls (oxen) that plowed the fields, towed big wagons, and helped with labor, but in 1950, dairy cows were raised and a new way to earn cash income was sought.

A veterinarian was stationed on the island to manage the dairy cows, and a dairy cooperative was formed with professional guidance, and the industry grew to become a major industry on the island. At its peak, the dairy had more than a dozen cows.

The veterinarian was Mr. Izumi Tanaka, who settled in Sunokami and worked for Sagishima for many years.

Livestock breeding competition

In 1951, dairy cows were bred in the area, and the livestock breeding was promoted.

A livestock promotion event was held to promote livestock breeding.

The photo shows the livestock promotion event held on the grounds of Mukoda Elementary School. The cattle division is divided into two sections, one for service cows and the other for dairy cows.

It seems that the agricultural products fair and livestock breeding show held at that time was jointly organized by Saginoura Village and the Mukoda Agricultural Cooperative Association. The village as a whole worked together with the agricultural cooperative to promote agricultural products and livestock breeding.

The flag in the photo is the winner's flag sent by the Mukoda Agricultural Cooperative Association to the winner of the fair.
